How we choose
What gets onto these lists, what does not, and what we do with the affiliate links. Short version: nobody pays to be here, and we say when something is not worth your bath.
Nobody pays to be on these lists
No publisher, streaming service, label, or PR agency has paid for a placement here, and none has been offered one. If that ever changes, it will be labelled on the entry itself, not disclosed somewhere you have to go looking for.
Some of the book links are Amazon affiliate links, which means we earn a small commission if you buy through one. That happens after a book is already on the list. It has never been the reason one got here, and the commission is identical whichever book you buy, so there is nothing for us to game.
The test is whether it works in a bath
This is a narrower question than whether something is good. A brilliant novel with a large cast and long chapters is a bad bath book. A merely enjoyable thriller with four-page chapters is a good one. We are recommending against a specific constraint (one hand, cooling water, forty minutes) and not handing out general praise.
So entries say what the thing is, who it suits, and what it is like to use in the bath. Where something is heavier, darker, or longer than its cover suggests, we say that too. A list where everything is recommended equally is not a list, it is a catalogue.
We do not publish ratings
An earlier version of these pages carried star ratings out of five. We removed them. A number implies a review process, with consistent criteria, more than one assessor, and something repeatable. We did not have one. Publishing the number anyway would have been dressing up an opinion as a measurement.
What you get instead is a plain sentence about who each thing suits. It is less tidy and more honest.
Facts carry a source, or they do not appear
Sales figures, bestseller rankings, and adaptation news are linked to the publication that reported them, so you can check rather than trust us. Where we could not source a claim that appeared on an older version of these pages, we removed it rather than softening it into something vaguer.
Streaming availability is given for Canada specifically. Most "what to watch" lists are written for a US audience, and a US answer is simply wrong here. Hulu, to take the common example, does not operate in Canada at all.
Everything gets re-checked
Streaming rights move, playlists gain and lose tracks, and books get adaptations. Each entry records the date a human last checked it, and each list shows the most recent of those dates at the bottom of the page.
If you find something out of date or wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
Who "we" is
Waverley Bath Board Co. is a small Canadian operation that makes one product. These lists are written in-house, with no outside editorial team and no freelance byline. We sell bath boards, and we are not going to pretend otherwise while recommending things to use on one.
That is the conflict of interest, stated plainly: we have a commercial reason to want you thinking about long baths. What we do not have is a reason to prefer any particular book, series, or playlist over another.
